Admissions
Policy
Below are the Guidelines that we use when
considering a child for placement:
1. Palmer Home for Children shall ordinarily serve
children who meet the following criteria: they are classified as
dependent, neglected, or abused; they are from a lower socio-economic
background; they have no other viable family placement alternative; they
do not have severe physical or emotional problems that would require
placement in a specialized facility; and they have not been formally
adjudicated as delinquent. Any admissions exceptions to these criteria
shall be approved by the Executive Committee.
2. Palmer Home for Children will accept children of any age and will
continue providing services beyond age 18 for youth pursuing further
education; provided, however, that Palmer Home for Children shall
diligently pursue alternative placement for infants that are not a part
of sibling groups and that the admission of children age 13 or over shall
be approved by the Executive Committee. In emergency circumstances, where
immediate placement is required, the President or his designee, upon
consultation and approval by the Chairman of the Board or upon a
favorable poll of Executive Committee members, may approve the admission
of a youngster age 13 or over.
3. Palmer Home for Children shall serve children without regard to race
or creed, rearing them in a Christian setting in the Presbyterian
tradition and providing for their physical, emotional, educational,
social, recreational, and spiritual needs.
4. Palmer Home for Children shall give preference for admission to
sibling groups and to children who are referred through a church contact.
