Palmer home for Children is a ministry to children in
need.....children who are growing up as social orphans without the nurture
and support of a loving family.....children who need a place to be and to
become.
For more than 112 years, Palmer has provided needy
youngsters with a stable, Christ-centered home built on loving
one-to-one relationships. Founded in 1895, Palmer remains committed
to helping children achieve their full God-given potential, however
scarred or shattered their family background.
Today, that founding vision provides comprehensive and
compassionate care at three residential locations: the original
campus in Columbus; the Hernando campus; and the Mississippi Sheriffs Boys
and Girls Ranch located between Columbus and Starkville. Together
the three campuses provide year-round care for some 90 boys and girls from
birth through college age, who live in cottages designed much like single
family homes. Palmer's care also includes providing for a child's
long-term education, family counseling, foster care and adoption, and
other family-related services that palmer offers through its well
qualified, professional staff.
Palmer's services are provided free of charge to both
individual children and sibling groups from lower socioeconomic
circumstances who need and want to be together.
Each day is structured to provide a careful blend of
education, work, family and fun -- all the things a healthy child needs,
including the incorporation of Biblical principles into every aspect of
life
Palmer Home and the Ranch have helped hundreds of
children overcome the uncertainty and despair of a broken home and embark
on successful careers and family life; yet never has the need been
greater. One prominent social historian, Dr. Marshall B. Jones, has
identified today's child welfare crisis as the most pronounced in American
history, far more protracted and severe than either the Great Depression
or Civil War.
To help meet today's urgent needs, Palmer's board is
committed to serving as many children as resources will possibly allow.
The private sector, and each of us, bears special responsibility to give
these deserving boys and girls the love and encouragement they critically
need to become all that our gracious God intends.
Your
prayer and
financial support can help provide a productive future for a needy
Palmer child. Palmer Home, which accepts no direct government aid,
is supported entirely by voluntary gifts and bequests from interested
friends who share its vision of ministry. Many friends also
volunteer their time by working
to improve our facilities or by becoming a personal prayer
sponsor for a Palmer child.
We cordially invite you to become a part of
the growing Palmer family of friends who are determined to make a
difference in the life of a needy child. You can request additional
information by filling out our online
